Instagram’s Stance on Logos in Reels: What You Need to Know
Chief of Instagram , Adam Mosseri, recently addressed whether including your own brand's logo in Reels affects their reach. His response? It’s perfectly fine.
“If you watermark a Reel with your own logo, will that affect its reach? The answer is no, that’s actually good to go,” Mosseri explained. “What we try to do is not recommend Reels with logos from other apps, but if it’s your own logo, don’t worry about it.”
Instagram first introduced penalties in 2021 for Reels that displayed the TikTok logo, aiming to discourage users from reposting content directly from TikTok. While such Reels can still reach your followers, their exposure in Explore and recommendations is limited. The goal was to prioritize original content, enhancing user experience across the platform's discovery features.
This policy seems to extend to other platforms as well. For example, content reposted from YouTube Shorts that carries the Shorts logo would likely face similar reach limitations.
The takeaway? Avoid reposting TikToks, YouTube Shorts, or other branded content with visible logos from competing platforms if you aim for a broader reach on Instagram. However, feel free to include your own brand’s logo in your Reels without worry—there won’t be any penalties.
For Reels creators, this clarification ensures you can still promote your brand while playing by the rules.
